Risks
In 2007 there was a heavy battle in the Netherlands between minister Klink and smartshopowners. Minister Klink wanted to make magic mushrooms completely illegal. Up to then dried muschrooms were illegal, but fresh ones weren’t. The reason for this bill was the death of a tourist. She jumped of a bridge under the influence of shrooms. Most likely she thought she could fly. Smartshopowners said they always warned buyers of the risks of magic mushrooms. That they always gave costumers the clear information not to eat mushrooms alone. You should always have a sitter with you (someone who stays sober the entire time you trip). The smartshopowners were right, they did provide this information to their costumers. But the problem those days was not only smartshops were selling mushrooms, about every tourist shop was.
So minister Klink wanted some research done by the CAM (Coordination Assessment and Monitoring new drugs). This was a giant investigation on the risk of magic mushrooms and their unstable character as hallucinogenics, Klink said. But the results were surprising.
CAM stated there was no risk for the individual’s health, nor for that of the society or public safety. There was no criminal activity concerning the magic mushrooms. CAM even stated that it wouldn’t be smart to make magic mushrooms illegal.
“Smartshops might replace the mushrooms for a more dangerous alternative.”
“Making mushrooms illegal will increase the amount of mushroom hunters, which will increase the cases of deaths by poisoning.”
“Consumers might take other hallucinogenic alternatives that are connected to criminal activeties and therefor creating more problems.”
“Passing this bill will cost a lot of money.”
Despite the results of the CAM, the bill passed and mushrooms got illegal in the Netherlands. Opposites of minister Klink say the deaths of tourists on mushrooms have stopped, but they might as well have increased somewhere else we don’t know about.
So what I want to make clear: a national investigation on the risks of magic mushrooms stated that there were no concerning risks. Mushrooms do not effect the brain on long term bases. . There are no forms of physical or mental dependence. The one thing you do need to keep in mind is the possibility of you having a bad trip, freaking out and becoming paranoid. So only take mushrooms in surroundings where you feel good. Never take them when your alone, or you might end up like one of the tourists from the Netherlands.
It is a fact that magic mushrooms enhance the emotional status of someone when taken. So if your planning to take magic mushrooms make sure your not worrying about anything, you don’t feel stressed or unhappy.Researches et John Hopkins even said magic mushrooms can be good for your long term health (watch video below).
If you wish to read the report of the CAM on magic mushrooms you free to do so right here (written in Dutch).
The CAM report states that 1 or 2 on 100.000 people who consume magic mushrooms get hospitalized. Most of the people calling for an ambulance do so because of nausea or strong panic attacks (it typically fades away). Most of the called ambulances did not need to transport the patient to the hospital, observation was sufficient. When people do get hospitalized most of the time it is because of combining the magic mushrooms with other drugs, which leads to heavy hallucinations and the possibility of you hurting yourself.
Under no circumstances, what ever those might be, combine consumption of alcohol with magic mushrooms!
